Overreacting (24)

20.07.07

Posted under: People, Site, Thoughts

Too many people do it too often. In my previous post, I received a nasty comment:

OMG I can’t believe you have that article up… You’re supposed to be 19. I think you need to grow up. The world is changing… You better delete that stupid article or I’ll keep on writing nasty comments.

The article in question be found here (opens in new window).

I believe that the tone is quite explicit in that article but the commentator saw the title, read a bit, then jumped to conclusions without fully processing the entire message of the article.

[Edit] Another comment for the same issue:

Judgmental. A bit. Homophobic… yep you are. I think the person who wrote that comment was absolutely right. Grow up. It’s okay to have your opinions but to a certain extent…

What is wrong with gay marriage? Certainly nothing you wrote…

And if you think I’m being “immature” think again. Look in the mirror every once in a while.

I will have a petition. And I will get tons of signatures saying you should take that stupid and judgmental article down. If you would like to contact me…feel free.

Have a couple of people “flame” my site, sure I’m all for it. But hey that means YOU’RE the immature one.

If your article is not down with in 2 days I WILL present you with my petition…

[Edit] This following statement, by far, has got to be my very favorite (the original comment is not in this post, but rather among the other comments from “Anonymous”)

…homophobia is illegal…

I’ll admit that I can often overreact sometimes or think something too quickly, but never would I ever do what this commentator did. I respect what a person wants to put on his/her own webpage. Who am I to dictate what’s there? I also respect others’ opinions, even if they differ from mine and it just peeves me that this commentator did not. Though I must admit it was quite too funny to read this in the morning to realize that the commentator completely overlooked the tone of the article.

Another incident just happened today with a message board that I frequent. Apparently, there used to be another message board with the same name, but it died out. My board (I don’t own it, but I’ll use “mine” to distinguish) was created in January, when the other board was nonexistent. The second board, which just resurfaced in June, just realized that we had the same name, which prompted three of their members, two admins and one member, to bombard my board. One was completely uncivil and nasty; the other two admins tried to be civil about the entire situation, but by their language, they obviously were not.

Anyway, they got upset because they think my board “ripped off” the second board’s name. Seriously folks, it’s a name. It’s not a trademarked name, it’s not something that was widely popular to begin with. There are other people out there with my name, but I’m not going to bash on them, am I? No. If there was another site named “Boscardin,” I would think that it’s cool. Someone else knows about my name and thinks it’s worthy enough to use.

(As of July 23, 2007 the issue has been resolved.)
[Edit] The issue’s been… well, not exactly resolved I should say, but it’s been put down. I admit that my board and I were defensive due to the member that was completely uncivil, so there may have been some heightened emotions. It’s done with and over. Finis.

But yes, overreacting can be funny if you get to witness other people doing it. I must say I got quite a few laughs out of all of these. What would you have done had you been in my situation?
