So I’ve been with Netflix for about… thirty minutes. Here is my list so far:

Pro:
Instant customer service 24 hours a day. I just placed a call and got through to human right away and had a few good laughs.

Con:
The stupid “Watch It Now” movies must be played with Internet Explorer.

Pro:
It’s cheaper by a dollar.

Con:
Not sure yet.

Blockbuster has been getting on my nerves a little though. I keep checking the “remember me” box every time I sign in, but every time I come back… I have to log in again. Also, as soon as I get to my homepage, the not-so-very nice Facebook screen pops up and every time, I click “do not show me this again” and every time… I see it again.

So far so good Netflix. Keep it up and by the 20th, if you’re good. I’ll keep you.

Blockbuster raised my fees again. Or should I say that they changed my plan. Whatever. Either way, it’s different from when I first had it and now, I’m getting fed up. They’ve changed prices on me at least twice in the seven months that I’ve been with them and frankly, I’m getting tired of it. I have been looking at Netflix’s plans and considering what I’m getting at Blockbuster now, they look more appealing.

When I first signed up for this kind of service over the summer, Blockbuster and Netflix pretty much had the same plans for about the same prices. The reason why I went with Blockbuster was because I was able to trade in my mail-in DVDs for in-store DVDs. Obviously, I can’t do that with Netflix.

So here’s the deal. This is my current plan with Blockbuster:
$9.99 (plus tax)
1 DVD out at a time, max 3 DVDs per month
Unlimited in-store movie exchanges
1 free in-store movie rental

All in all, I can get a total of seven DVDs rented for $9.99.

This is what I may consider at Netflix:
$8.99 (plus tax)
1 DVD out at a time, unlimited per month
Unlimited hours to watch movies on my PC

With Netflix, I feel I may be able to get more out of it since I can watch on my laptop while I’m waiting for the next movie to come in the mail. I’m at a loss as to which service to go with. Feel free to leave a comment here with your opinion and also place a vote in the poll for me.

Here’s the second post to this: Blockbuster vs. Netflix Part 2

Chick Flicks (1)

I love watching good movies again. There are just a few that are always good to watch time and time again. I recently watched Pride and Prejudice (2005) and The Notebook again. The Notebook was actually on TV a few weeks earlier, but I had missed the entire beginning of the movie.

I remember Stockton Boy telling me about how much he despised romantic chick flicks. Why? It’s because they create the strong idealistic sense in women that men should be like that, that men should do romantic gestures and whatnot. Those types of movies create high expectations for women which in turn, just screw over the men who have to work twice as hard to win over the woman. Of course, each relationship and each person are different, but in a overall sense, that’s what happens, no? I must admit that sometimes, I expect things too, but only because I feel as if I deserve it.

Escape (4)

What’s yours?

I mean, everybody once in a while wants to escape reality, right? But we can’t always due it or fly to wherever it is we want to go, so how due you turn your mundane world into your escape?

For me, I choose books, movies, and games. Basically, I get lost in entertainment. I get lost in somebody else’s life so I don’t have to deal with mine. Sometimes, it’s not even a necessary escape for me; sometimes… well, it’s entertaining.

Lately, I feel that I’ve had the need to read more, to watch more, to get lost more. I know it’s not the greatest defense to deal with my problems, but it helps me stay calm. It helps me find my own way to cope.

Is there a chance you could ever get so lost, you can’t get back out again? I don’t know really… maybe it depends on the escape, right? My escapes aren’t that damaging to life, or at least I think so. But other people have different escapes, may it be drugs, alcohol, thrill-seeking, etc. So for those people, how do they know when it’s time to stop faking and time to start dealing? How does anyone know? Do you wait for it to get that bad?

I don’t know really. If you haven’t realized by now, I like to pose questions that have many answers, some of which are clear and some of which are not. But, that’s life right? Sometimes it’s clear and fun and other times it’s all muddled up with shit. Oh well, deal we shall.
