Returning Comments (4)

Okay, lately, I’ve noticed a trend that I absolutely despise. Those who live by the “I return comments” philosophy have got to get it right. Just because you happen to leave a comment on someone’s blog post, doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve successfully “returned” a comment.
What am I talking about? I’m talking about the people who don’t take the time to either install a plugin like the Comment Email Responder or use email to reply to the comment you left them. Instead, they march on over to your blog, skip over the entire post, and leave their reply to your comment there. It’s not a reply to your blog post and therefore should not be counted as “returning” a comment.
I hate seeing meaningless comments like that. Of course, there are always those one sentence ones that people leave, myself included, that don’t convey much attention (I have my reasons), but at least it still touches on the subject in the blog post. But the meaningless ones have absolutely no relation to the topic. It bugs me so much, you have no idea. I’m kind of one of those people who likes to see that people are leaving comments (which is why I signed up for Despair), but I would rather see no comment than a meaningless one.
Seriously people, if you’re going to try and return comments, at least do it properly and read the damned post. I’m not saying that you can’t post your reply to my comment in the box, but at least have the decency to talk about the post.
